Presentation Abstract
A patron contacted us and asked a question about integrating information from other websites into his website. He wanted to know if there were any copyright ramifications. During the research that was done to answer his question, the presenter found that there were a lot of ramifications and considerations that classroom instructors need to be aware of and for which they need to hold themselves and their students accountable. Method: A search was completed on the internet to find information on copyright laws (27,900 hits) and two listserv archives on copyright were reviewed. Results: A paper was developed to present the basic information on copyright as it applies to electronic communication. This paper is available on the IOES website and will be shared during this session. A one hour workshop was developed. This workshop is short on presenting information and long on discussing participants' concerns and experiences. Conclusions: Most instructors and education administrators are not cognizant of the rules of copyright as they apply to the electronic sharing of information. This workshop is an introduction to this highly complicated question dealing with right and wrong.
